Gore Glen Woodland Park in Midlothian is a rehabilitated coal site, which has a system of waymarked paths. The park is predominantly woodland in character having been planted in 1979 with a range of species to enhance the natural setting. Gore Glen is managed and patrolled by Midlothian Ranger Service.
Starting from the main car park, take the path running south parallel to the A7. At the end of the conifer woodland, a path junction indicates a steep path descending to your right. Keep left at this point and continue following the path along the boundary fence until you come to a set of steps on your right, after about 250m. Take the steps down into the valley and the Gore Water - a tributary of the River South Esk. Turn right and follow the path along the river. The Gore Water supports a range of water birds including Kingfisher, Dipper and Heron.
